What You Will Do
The Pharmacy Director will be responsible for the overall operation of the pharmacy department. The position requires extensive contact with the administrator, medical staff, nursing service staff, hospital staff, clinic staff, Long Term Care staff, and nonhospital contractors (vendors, auditors).
Responsibilities
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department to ensure that the pharmacy has coverage by a pharmacist.
- Perform pharmacist duties and “work the bench,” as needed or when support is required.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles hiring, discipline and termination of employees in accordance with hospital policy.
- Oversees and assists with unit-dose preparation.
- Handles and orders narcotics for the hospital. Ensures that safety and security protocols are in place to monitor and detect medication administration anomalies, discrepancies, suspected diversion. Ensures a process is in place to resolve discrepancies collaboratively with medical staff and nursing units.
- Maintains an adequate drug supply and manages the formulary.
- Coordinates the pharmacy function with the nursing service and the medical staff.
- Ensures that Pharmacy staff have removed all expired and outdated medication from all units and Pharmacy department.
- Responsible for managing the department budget and inventory.
- Performs Quality Assurance and Improvement programs for the department.
- Serves as Chair of the pharmacy and therapeutic committees.
- Serves on the infection control committee and other committees, as assigned.
What You Will Need
- Must be organized and able to develop a planning approach of program implementation.
- Must exhibit a high degree of professional excellence characterized by sound independent judgment, initiative, and a high standard of ethics.
- Must serve as Pharmacist-in-charge of the facility.
- Doctorate degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Must have and maintain a current license from the North Dakota board of pharmacy.
- At least one year of experience in a hospital setting with management and supervisory responsibility.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing may be required.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
