Position Summary
The Director of Pharmacy Services plans and designs services, and plays a leadership role in creating the environment and culture that reflect the vision, mission and values.
The Director establishes policies, procedures, standards, and objectives for the provision of services in accordance with all regulatory agencies included but not limited to Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), New York State Board of Pharmacy (NYSBOP), New York State Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (NYSBNE), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This involves coordination with other departments to provide maximum level of services to patients, staff, and customers.
The Director to plan, organize, and direct department effort. This includes managing an operating budget and expense and revenue performance, managing medication use processes including prescribing, dispensing, administering and monitoring patient outcomes, ensuing quality staff performance through effective supervision, training and evaluation, maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.
Educational Requirements/ Qualifications
- At least two years supervisory experience in hospital pharmacy practice preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, administrative, human resource and managerial skills required
- Graduation from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy required. A Pharmacy Doctorate or master's in science in customer pharmacy and an ASHP-accredited residency or Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist is preferred is preferred
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the legal responsibilities of the pharmacist to the facility and all state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services
- Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in interdisciplinary teams and committees
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required
- Must hold current license in good standing with the applicable State Board of Pharmacy achieved through examination and reciprocityKnowledgeable in pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist is preferred.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in assessing the use and application of new medications and medication technology, including complex equipment and delivery systems
- Demonstrated ability to develop policies and procedures for pharmaceutical services
- The ability to solve problems using analytical thinking is preferred
- Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet software and Pharmacy information systems (i.e. Pyxis®, Meditech PHA) is required
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the operations of 340B programs
- Knowledgeable in the operations of a retail pharmacy
- Knowledgeable and proficient in USP 797 and USP 800 standards
- Member of American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) and New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists (NYSCHP) preferred.
