Pharmacy Manager
Direct and coordinate all aspects of Pharmacy operations, and establish policies, procedures, standards, and objectives for pharmaceutical care, medication safety, and performance improvement. Provide overall management of the Pharmacy Department to include planning, budgeting, staff supervision, quality management, and supervision of the staff members. Provide specialized clinical pharmaceutical services including staff development, continuing education programs, patient safety initiatives, and performance improvement activities. Demonstrate the ability to perform in a collaborative environment while supporting a team approach to problem resolution and organizational success. Maintain positive relationships and effectively communicate with other departments and affiliates within the network to provide the maximum level of service, and the highest quality of care and align with the highest standards of patient safety.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the day-to-day operational requirements of the Pharmacy Department.
Assumes responsibility for the implementation and compliance with departmental and organizational policies.
Set goals for the Department, evaluate progress and develop action plans to achieve success.
Compile reports and special studies as assigned.
Monitor and assess the appropriateness, safety, and efficacy of drug therapy and provide recommendations for improvement to the Corporate Director.
Provide recommendations and insight to the Corporate Director for optimizing drug therapy outcomes and reducing pharmacy expenditure.
Reviews and maintains the written or electronic Formulary tool and makes recommendations to the Corporate Director for revisions or enhancement.
Monitors and reports Physician prescribing patterns and medication utilization trends.
Under the direction of the Corporate Director, assists in implementing new concepts in drug distribution and control by established policies and standards of pharmacy practice.
Supports a collaborative team approach both inter and intra-departmentally for the provision of pharmaceutical care.
Supports the use of new technologies to re-engineer drug distribution and control aligned with the network's strategic goals for medication management.
Supports new technology and developments that support the institution’s and the network's system goals.
Directs and coordinates the integration of Pharmacy services with other aspects of overall patient care.
Participates in project teams as assigned.
Oversees the storage and distribution of pharmaceutical items and provides continued compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
Monitors pharmaceutical inventory levels to provide adequate supplies to meet patient needs.
Responsible for the management of Inventory Specialist staff to provide fiscally sound inventory security, accountability, and control.
Support safe and effective drug distribution and control for adjunct network affiliate services including but not limited to HQMP, surgical center, and other off-campus locations.
Review, analyze, and make recommendations for improving existing processes.
Serves as a resource for CPOE and bedside medication verification.
Responsible for effective financial management and proper utilization of resources within the Pharmacy Department.
Prepares an annual department budget addressing capital equipment, personnel, inventory, supplies, and other departmental expenses.
Plans and organizes daily operational activities to support the maximum cost-effective provision of pharmacy services.
Support and maintain effective clinical programs with positive and responsible fiscal outcomes.
Review and assess the Pharmacy Department’s revenue generation and monitor corporate compliance.
Utilizes financial resources within established budgetary limits and provides variance justification reports to the Corporate Director.
Responsible for departmental budgetary analysis and support expense containment strategies.
Provides information and statistics to the financial metrics dashboard as directed.
Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory and providing management leadership to departmental purchasing and inventory specialists.
Assumes responsibility for developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the quality of services by the department and implements appropriate corrections
Review and document the performance improvement plans for the department. Prepares a written report to the Director detailing any problems and their solutions and implementation.
Promotes a safe and efficient working environment ensuring that all employees are appropriately trained in Infection Control and Quality Assurance policies and procedures and addressing any non-compliance within HQ guidelines
Identifies and inventories hazardous substances, assures appropriate handling of infectious and hazardous materials within the department
Coordinates and implements standardized Joint Commission compliance activities within the department. Collaborates with affiliates to support standardization and consistency across network pharmacies.
Monitors Infection Control and Quality Assurance policies and procedures. Promotes a safe and efficient environment.
Collects, collates, and documents Pharmacy metrics and provides trending and compliance reports to the Corporate Director as assigned.
Performs other duties as outlined to improve the overall effectiveness of the department.
Participates in revenue cycle and activities for patient charges/billing and reimbursement documentation and compliance.
Demonstrates an understanding of HQ Corporate Compliance Policy.
Member of the Pharmacy executive team and encourages team development and collaboration.
Performs other duties that may be necessary or assigned to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and to support a teamwork environment.
Responsible for staff development and support continuing education.
Meets compliance with relevant regulatory agencies.
Demonstrates commitment to excellence by representing the department on various hospital committees as necessary and assigned.
Requirements:
3-5+ years of in-patient experience with a proven successful track record in Pharmacy operations, clinical, and management.
3+ years of Manager, Team Lead, or Charge experience is a must.
MHA or advanced degree in business management or related field.
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Must hold a license in good standing.
